Galungan Day's Procession

                Galungan is one of Hindu holiday which aim to celebrate the victory of Good spirit (Dharma) against evil spirit (Adharma).
                Galungan day’s processions start from Tumpek Wariga. Tumpek Wariga that is on Saturday, Kliwon, Wuku Wariga on 25 days before Galungan itself. On this Tumpek Wariga, Hindu people make some worship to the Bhatara Sangkara to ask for prosperous plants which are very useful in human’s life.
                After Tumpek Wariga or 15 days before Galungan is called Anggara Kasih Julungwangi. Anggara Kasih Julungwangi is the day on Tuesday, Kliwon, Wuku Julungwangi. On this day, Hindu people give sacrifice to evil spirit (Bhuta Kala) by doing Mecaru Alit ceremony in house temple and clean the environment before Galungan day.
                On Wednesday, Pon, Wuku Sungsang is well known with Sugihan Pengenten. Sugihan Pengenten is the day to start “release bones”. Release bones means to release all the negative effects of evil spirit.
                The day on Thursday, Wage, Wuku Sungsang is called Sugihan Jawa. It is on 6 days before Galungan itself.  On this day, Hindu people pray to ask for dignity and everlasting of the universe (Bhuana Agung). The next day is Sugihan Bali. Sugihan Bali is the day on Friday, Kliwon, Wuku Sungsang. On this day, Hindu people pray to ask for dignity and safety of human’s life (Bhuana Alit).
                After Sugihan Jawa and Bali, Galungan day’s procession is Penyekeban on 3 days before Galungan itself. Penyekeban is the day on Sunday, Paing, Wuku Dunggulan. On Penyekeban day, the Bhuta Galungan goes down to earth disturbing people to do negative behavior. Penyekeban day symbolized by people make the fruit ripe or “nyekeb”. Nyekeb that’s mean makes oneself strong.
                After Penyekeban day is Penyajaan day. Penyajaan is the day on Monday, Pon, Wuku Dunggulan on 2 days before Galungan itself. Penyajaan is the day which the Bhuta Dunggulan goes down to earth disturbing peoples more to do negative behavior. This day symbolized by making several cakes meaning throwing feeling to conquer people.
                One day before Galungan is well known with Penampahan day. It is on Tuesday, Wage, Wuku Dunggulan. On Penampahan day, the Bhuta Amangkurat goes down to earth disturbing people more and more to do negative behavior. To fight this evil feeling, Hindu people pray Bhatara Siwa to defeat the three evils. On this day symbolized by cut the pig which means be ready to welcome to Sang Hyang Dharma. Cutting pig means to make lazy behavior disappear. In the afternoon of Penampahan day, Hindu people prepare penjor and its banten then pray Hyang Maha Meru for his bless in form of dharma spirit that is exposed in Catur Veda which symbolized by penjor filled with :
v  Lamak is symbol of Reg Veda
v  Tamiang is symbol of Sama Veda
v  Sampian is symbol of Yayur Veda
v  Bakang-bakang is symbol of Atharwa Veda
Penjor means thankfulness for enough food and clothing. That’s why in penjor there hanging many kinds of fruits, cakes, roots and also white and yellow cloth.
The peak of Galungan is Galungan day in which Hindu people celebrate the victory of dharma against adharma. Galungan is the day on Wednesday, Kliwon, Wuku Dunggulan.  On this day, Bhatara-bhatari go down from kahyangan to bless human’s life.
And the last of Galungan day’s procession is Manis Galungan. It is on Thursday, Umanis, Wuku Dunggulan. On Manis Galungan, Hindu people visit their relatives to celebrate the victory of dharma and say sorry about the mistakes done in the past.
